Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

PostSubject: TerishD takes a bow   July 22nd 2008, 10:09 am

Received an invite, so came. Saw that it was a beginner writing site, and as a long-time internet writer/editor I felt willing to give some support. Hope that this place can survive.

I have been presenting stories on the internet for almost nine years now. I have published three books. I enjoy fantasy, although with my degree in Physics I have a science-fiction story that I occasionally add chapters to.

You should find that I will hang out in the story section giving critiques. I am not a poetry person (okay, I am, but I like silly rhyming poetry that drives 'real' poetry people up the wall). I am not a daily activity person, as I have my own daily routine that has kept me writing for nearly a decade.

Anyway, glad to meet everyone.

PostSubject: Well, you asked.   July 22nd 2008, 12:44 pm

If you call this poetry -

Oh flimsy gin
_____I dare not grin
__________The portrait was thrown in the mire
Twice I told
_____The wolf so bold
__________That I would not in white expire

The ice did bleed
_____As I stood to read
__________The stockings washed in lilies red
Tumbling into town
_____She did not yet drown
__________Kicking the wolf with my head

Oh flimsy gin
_____I still won't grin
__________Though the wolf is in the mire
Up below did I see
_____The portrait of me
__________I'm not in white so I might expire

Hi TerishD and welcome to Scribbles.

Glad to have another person here who says what he thinks. I think all of us appreciate that.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!
