Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

PostSubject: The Heat (The Erotic Forum)   August 11th 2011, 11:01 pm

We've worked on an erotic section on our forum and it is now finally online. No entries have been made so far, so everyone who does write in the erotic genre is welcome to share their work.

Let us know what you think of this.

Remember that it is an erotic section, so if access is granted, there might be words that are offensive to some.

Don't forget that this specific section needs special access, so send Kellycakes or me a PM. Keep in mind that there are different factors that will decide whether or not you'll get permission to access it.

PostSubject: What?   August 11th 2011, 11:19 pm

Okay, Snacker -- TALK!

I am a critic with access to the Adult section. People pleaded for it. They begged for it. They demanded it. Finally, it was activated. I went and got authorized (yeah!).

We have gotten almost no submissions (I believe two). They were both rather poor, even by the standards of porn. Originally I considered working on the one story that I consider a little 'over-the-top,' but I have not bothered.

What is your hope for an 'erotic' section? Is it just lovey-dovey stuff? Is it stuff for sharing between intimate partners. Is it 'go-ahead-and-do-it' posts?

Erotic means a lot of things today. It is one of those that everyone thinks they know, until they find out what others do under the banner of erotic. Thus, I ask you to explain for anyone that might be interested. As for me, you will getting a PM. Go ahead and authorize me so I can find out for myself (although I might only lurk for a time).

Fantasy puts more requirements on the writer than any other fiction, because the world must be made as real before anything else can be real.
Adult Christian fiction quite different than all the usual lame stuff in that market.  "Dilemma of Dreams" now in hard back.

Okay, Terish.

The lovey-dovey stuff can absolutely stay in the versification area. I'd consider everything from mild to hardcore to be put into this section. There are certain things you don't want your teenager to read, certain words and stories, and those kind of things would be going in here. I've posted a poem and a story written by me in there already, so you tell me where exactly I'm going with it.

Also, I've granted you access to it. Let me know if it worked, thanks.

The Erotic section was put in place to get more members, possibly ones who likes to write erotic stuff instead of the sweet sassy stuff which is what I classify most romance writers now a days. We are simply looking to expand the boards by offering more areas of creativity. If anyone else has any ideas we are opened to hearing them.

Easy reading is damn hard writing! I love you
