The Loss of a Dog
She was gravely ill and in much pain
The veterinary said: let her go
He gave her an injection I cradled her in my arms
She closed her eyes and lied still
Suddenly her eyes were wide open
She got up and howled to the heavens
Fell into my arms again and the ending.
She didn`t want to leave
She howled at nature and the unfairness she
Wanted to linger a little longer
Dogs no nothing about religion of gods and nature
She was a stupid bitch, an animal yet she loved me
And I didn`t deserve her trust.
I dug a hole in the clearing buried her there with her blanket
And assorted toys
I hesitated before filling the grave with earth
Just in case she would wake up so we could go for a walk.
An august night full moon and clear stars
I yelled to a silent god, and this is not the way we deserve to have
Our love is taken away from us
The trees in the forest lowered their branches
A satyr gave me a bouquet of blue roses
