The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

I use to smoke mister. But I went cold turkey, and I really didn't smoke more then a pack a week or every two weeks.

Get pregnant! Then you won't really have a choice Wink

I have tried for years to quit. The only thing that got me close was, oddly enough, hypnosis. I lasted 2 days instead of 10 hours. Doc has been trying to get me to quit lately, so I have try again soon.
What makes you start again? I just really like smoking even though it tastes bad, makes it hard to breathe, and smells! Somehow all those negatives get brushed aside with, "So?!" and I start again.

Yeah, tell that to my two nieces who's mother smoked the whole time she was pregnant with both of them... or to my girlfriend who stopped while she was pregnant, but started right back up a few months after popping the kid out.

Honestly, I can't tell you what's going to help you. Everyone is different. What have you tried, if anything? I've known a lot of people who have had success with the gum, but then most of them just get addicted to the gum instead.

The gum is fine if you just want to replace one habit with another. You'll breathe easier, but the nicotine still mucks up your heart and circulatory system. I tried the gum and just found it made me want to smoke.
It's a bitch to quit, but worth it from what I hear.
Then again, I'm still a smoker, so maybe I'm not the best one to give this advice.

If you are having trouble stopping its already to late.
Sorry, that is what my grandfather from my father's side said. He said that even if go cold turkey you'll still have the effects.
He says if you have been smoking for 4 years it will take 5 years to stop thinking about or craving it.

Anyway what he did was he fixed his addiction with another addiction.
[Not very helpful I know and maybe not the healthiest advice] But he said if its a healthy addiction then its fine.
I'm not sure you can do what he did though substitute cigarettes with comic books, but find a new addiction a healthier addiction.

Cause my grandfather said that the gum and the patches have some nasty side effects.

Hope some of this helped.
I bet it didn't though.

Quiting smoking? It is the hardest thing I have ever done, and truth be told I still want a cigarette every now and then. I did it cold turkey, I'd done it before and then picked one up and was hooked again. They tell you it MAY cause cancer but they never tell you that you will become addictive and it will drive you crazy if you don't get one just like with any other drug. But hey that is life. You can do it. It is never too late. If you quit quiting, then you are nothing but a quiter. If that made any sense. Good luck on your lifelong journey!!
