I'm still working on my story 'Fumbled Life' and since my main character is studying Criminology I need some Facts about it. Things like, what exactly studying criminology involves etc.

Does anyone know a site where I can find information on criminology?

Wikipedia can give you a good place to start from; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminology Pay close attention to the references and external links at the bottom of the page. There's some good stuff there.

Also, check with your local community collage's website or forums if they have them. Most schools have criminology courses they offer for the local police force. Maybe if you can get in touch with a professor or even a student they can give you some good resource suggestions, maybe some library books you could check out or something of the like.

I also seem to remember your story having a reference in it to your main character seeing blood and recognizing it as real because of things he learned in his 'criminology' classes. But strictly speaking criminology is the study of crime from a sociology point of view. The more physical side of things is normally covered under forensic science.

Think of it this way; you know the show Law & Order? The cops figure out the motivation for the crimes (criminology) and the coroner runs the DNA and/or figures out what the murder weapon was (forensic science).

Yes I know the show Law & Order and that was exactly what I was looking for. He tries to find out what the motivation of the crime was. I'm pretty sure I'll bring one of his friends who studies forensic science into the story.

Quick note. A Good part of detective work is to know real blood from stage props and stuff, like for example. Blood also has a very distinct smell, that once you know it, you never forget it.

Also note the idea of motive from the type of attack, was this personal? Hate or Obsession?

So things like that might come into play in the whole scheme of things.

CSI uses a lot of Criminology to explain the facts that their forensics find.

Well it's been a while and I'm wondering if you have worked on the story at all? If so are you going to post it? I'd like to see whether these suggestions worked for you and your story?
